A typical week in Blossom Class

What are we learning in Autumn Term 1?

We are excited to begin a new term and have lots of exciting learning planned! This term, the children will be developing their knowledge and skills across a range of subjects, with plenty of opportunities to explore, investigate, practise and have fun along the way.

English – The Enormous Turnip

We will explore this traditional tale, developing storytelling skills, vocabulary and sentence writing before retelling the story in our own words.

Geography – My Place, My World

We will learn about where we live, the countries and capital cities of the UK, and where the UK is located in the wider world. We will also develop our map skills and geographical vocabulary.

Maths – Place Value & Number Facts

We will strengthen our understanding of tens and ones, number bonds and multiplication facts, including the 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables. Regular NumBots practice at home will help build fluency and confidence.

Reading

Our Reading Padlet will be relaunched, giving children the chance to share their favourite books, authors and stories and recommend reads to their friends.

Science

We will investigate seasonal changes, particularly Autumn, before exploring different materials, their properties and what they are suitable for.

PE & Outdoor Learning

We will make the most of the warmer weather with plenty of PE and outdoor learning, encouraging children to explore and learn beyond the classroom

How can you help at home?

Families can support learning by:

Reading regularly and discussing books
Sharing reading on the Reading Padlet
Practising NumBots and times tables
Talking about seasonal changes
Looking at maps and exploring places around the world
Encouraging children to ask questions and share what they discover

Most importantly, we hope the children have a fantastic term, full of curiosity, challenge, fresh air and plenty of opportunities to learn together. We are looking forward to seeing them grow in confidence, independence and enthusiasm

Daily Phonics and Reading:

Alongside the daily phonics sessions, we will hear your child read so we please ask that reading records, are kept in their book bags and brought to school every day. Please also record any times you read with your child at home in their reading records. Please do not hesitate to ask a member of the team if you have any questions regarding this.

Our Little Wandle reading sessions happen Monday- Wednesday. This book will be sent home on a Wednesday to be read with you at home and returned on the following Monday. The children will receive stamps and then will receive dojos in return.
