What we will be learning this term
We are delighted to welcome the children back to school after the summer break and are looking forward to another exciting and action-packed term of learning!
English
This term, our English learning will be centred around the thrilling novel Stormbreaker by Alex Rider, alongside The River That Flows Beside Me, which links beautifully with our Geography topic on landscapes.
Maths
We will be developing our understanding of place value and the four operations, with a particular focus on strengthening our times tables knowledge.
TT Rockstars will be a fantastic way for children to practise their times tables regularly at home and build their speed and confidence. We will also be relaunching our Reading Padlet, giving children the opportunity to share what they have been reading at home and recommend books to their friends.
P.E.
We are hoping to make the most of the warmer weather, with plenty of PE and outdoor learning taking place whenever possible.
Science
In Science, we will be exploring states of matter, investigating solids, liquids and gases and how materials can change. We are also excited that some children will be beginning their French journey for the very first time.
Supporting your child's learning at home
There are lots of ways that families can support learning at home this term.
Regular reading together or independently, followed by a chat about the book, characters and new vocabulary, is a wonderful way to support English.
Please encourage children to record and share their reading on the Reading Padlet. A few minutes of times-table practice each day on TT Rockstars can make a huge difference, and practising through quick-fire questions, games or even asking multiplication questions during everyday activities can make this fun. You could also look for opportunities to explore Geography and Science in everyday life—for example, discussing different landscapes when out walking, visiting rivers or hills, or talking about solids, liquids and gases while cooking. Most importantly, we hope the children have a fantastic term, full of curiosity, challenge, fresh air and plenty of opportunities to learn together
