Google Classroom is a free application which allows teachers and students to communicate and can be used to organise and manage learning tasks. It forms part of Google’s G Suite for Education which is used in many secondary and further education settings as it enables distance learning. It has an uncomplicated and user-friendly interface that will help you manage learning at home at this challenging time
You should check the platform regularly to see if any new learning has been set for your child. Some pieces of learning will have a deadline for submission; children should be encouraged to complete the learning by the given dates.
Some year groups have all their homework via Google Classroom - currently Years 2,3,4,5, and 6 have weekly homework set via Google Classroom.
We understand that parents and carers may be concerned about the amount of screen time children are being exposed to already. Assignments can be completed on paper and then a photo of the learning can be submitted on Google Classroom. Here are tips on how to manage screen time.
Learning at Home
Our Home Learning philosophy is that children should develop a love for learning throughout their lives and follow their own interests to broaden their knowledge and skills outside of school.
Children can have their own home learning grid, where they will complete a number of different projects over the course of each half term. The children and parents can decide in what order and how they want to complete their tasks, bringing home learning pieces in to share with the class to celebrate what they have achieved.
Encouraging children to be responsible for their own learning has led to a higher home learning participation rate and an enjoyment and passion for learning outside of school.
