Class 3
Welcome to Class 3 - Year 5/6
Class 3 is taught by Mrs. Bird.
Mrs. Bird’s recommended reads:
What are we learning in Spring Term 1?
Year 5/6
This term, our learning is based around the following:
English
We are studying the text ‘Wonder’. After we have analysed the text in depth, the class will be using a dictionary and thesaurus to build a bank of vocabulary. They will also write character descriptions, poems and diary entries based on the text. This will continue in spring term 2.
Maths
We will be working on multiplication, division, fractions and decimals. Year 6s will also have some opportunities to recap on some other areas of mathematics, in order to work towards our SATs that will take place later on in the year.
"In either paper form or online, Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. This format has very successfully boosted times tables recall speed for hundreds of thousands of pupils over the last 8 years in over 14,000 schools - both primary and secondary - worldwide."
Science
We will be focusing on different materials and use key scientific vocabulary to describe them. We will compare, and group together everyday materials based on their properties, including their hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity (electrical and thermal), and response to magnets.
Geography
Children will have the opportunity to explore their local area, study maps, and use digital tools to investigate diverse environments. Themes such as Climate Change, Rainforests, and Global Trade will encourage pupils to engage with contemporary global challenges and develop a sense of responsibility for the planet.
RE
We will be understanding the faith of ‘Islam’. We will be focusing on Islamic values, Muslim festivals and the importance of their places of worship.
Spanish
We will be learning new Spanish vocabulary linked to different themes related to Spanish culture.
Art
Children will learn about the seven elements of art and portraiture. They will also revise knowledge based on the colour wheel and how to use watercolour paints. The children will encounter a range of portrait artists from across history and the world and they will create a self-portrait using a collage.
PSHE
We will be understanding what happens when the law is broken; learning how to recognise and challenge discrimination; understanding the waste hierarchy; recognising the contribution people make to our community; exploring the link between rights and responsibilities and learning how parliament works.
Our PE day is:
Thursday (outdoor PE): Skill: Teamwork Unit: Games
Computing
We have been revising the unit ‘Scratch’ to create our own interactive stories, games, and animations.
